Eternal Sunshine

I’m trying on the clothes from my new box of goodies.

Everything fits but most of the things are not compatible with my taste, which is understandable considering they came from a 40-some-year-old woman. The creative and resourceful part of my brain’s first instinct is to change into something I’ll like better. But I look the tag and it always says something like BCBGMAXAZRIA, Ann Taylor, DKNY Jeans, Nike, Saks Fifth Avenue… Now not only do I not have the heart to defile it, I feel forced to at the very least “appreciate” or “respect” or “see its merit.” Well shit. 

And soon enough, because fashion recycles itself, these strange things will be “In” again. Just like the leather and then denim jackets. Just like neon and animal print. Just like the high waisted pants and crop tops. Just like gladiator sandals and combat boots. 

I still think it’d just be easier if clothes weren’t necessary at all. 

I always criticize my mother’s taste in everything from clothing to television to food.

When I was younger I would try on her clothes sometimes but I wouldn’t like the garments or I would be swimming in them.

But now my tastes have evolved along with recent fashion trends and inspirational friends and I revisited her closet tonight on the search for an oversized sweater to wear with the strange leopard leggings she bought me in China.

I didn’t find what I was looking for but I found tons of other treasures from my long standing wardrobe wishlist.

Chiffon tops, blazers, burnt orange color, tops to wear over camisoles…the next few weeks I’m going to make an effort to dress well. Prepare for a plethora of “OOTD” camwhoring. 

We’ll see if they actually work or maybe I just have poor taste / I’m too tired to think straight right now.
