V-Day Gifts I Received:

1.

My friend found this in her mom’s closet and I mentioned that I wanted to learn how to knit ever since our Capitol Hill field trip when we watched a lady knit on the metro. So she brought it in for me. :]

2.

So many baked goodies today! In Lit (after I failed my Hamlet essay) we read love poems and ate baked goods. I was going to use Eminem lyrics but my friend wrote an amazing love poem after I jokingly suggested that he should. It received a nod of approval from our teacher.

Then I bumped into my friend who’s the type of girl who could cheer anyone up just with her laugh. She also makes divine cupcakes. Remember these

3.

Valentine’s Day dinner with mommy. This is my first time trying chicken Pho. It was…alright…I’m starting to really dislike the taste of meat…but I always feel the need to eat it…I got young coconut for old times sake (and because hot yoga sold me on coconut water’s health benefits) but disappointingly it was about 70% ice…come on now! And look at the sad size of those lime wedges…oh well.

4. After the crazy journey through the snow storm to and from Annapolis on Saturday, my car was covered in grime and industrial salt so I got a full service car wash for $14.95 (Sounds kind of expensive to me, but is it?) They cleaned the interior and exterior and one guy even found one of my lost earrings! I wasn’t sure if/how much we were supposed to tip them though…and my mom is cheap and we didn’t have small bills with us so we just left without tipping…heh…Funny how I’ve passed that Flagship car wash all the time, all my life, and I’m just now seeing what it’s all about. They had a cool store/waiting area where I read quickstudy pamphlets and decided I want a zebra print steering wheel cover.

5. Mercy from teachers, Glee and New Girl while “working out,” random texts (including a disturbing picture from a questionable person), listening to jongy’s playlist for new music, new followers, getting along with my mom a few minutes at a time between fights…

The mood of the school day can be gauged in the cafeteria during lunch. Today, for once the air seemed light, there was pink poking through all part of my peripheral vision and smiles all around. I expected to see more grumpy faces but people actually seemed happy. Must have something to do with all the sugar in their systems ;]

Things That Could Have Gone Horribly Wrong But Didn’t

1.

Problem:

My bedside clock is an hour ahead because I’m too lazy to change it and I sometimes use it to pretend to by myself an hour. Here’s a prime example:

Coincidental Miracle Fix:

I woke up this morning to my alarm at 6:00 thinking it was 7:00. I freaked out thinking, “FUCK I’m late AGAIN. LIKE ALWAYS. I’m so tired…I should just not go to school…again…fuck….fucking school…motherfuckerrr…” But by the time my third alarm went off I realized it was really only 6:15 and I rejoiced and recovered from my mini-heart attack.

2.

Problem: I didn’t do my physics homework.

Coincidental Miracle Fix: She gave us time in class to do it. Score!

3.

Problem: I needed a chocolate, stat.

Coincidental Miracle Fix: I ran into Nicki (Above mentioned Cupcake Goddess)

4.

Problem: Shit happens

Coincidental Miracle Fix: I’m feeling philosophical today. Now I have things to write/blog/think about/learn from

5.

Problem: How do I get this last bit of noodle soup?

Coincidental Miracle Fix: Hey look, an extra straw! slluuurrrpppp

Horrible Truths Confirmed Today

1. Sometimes I feel like the only time I’m proud of my culture and/or parents is when they are under threat from racists and/or meany butts. Like while learning about the Cultural Revolution and Maozedong and all that jazz in AP Comparative Government and I realize I’m surrounded by 50 ignorant white people, including a teacher who doesn’t realize she’s being offensive.

2. My doctor (a family friend who I’ve always viewed as a chill guy) is an annoying blithering racist.

3. My grandpa talks way too much.

4. I can’t sing.

5. This was a test. And you failed. The amount of shits we give about each other is totally disproportional. While mine are steadily decreasing, yours have been insufficient to begin with. Maybe it’s time I take my shits somewhere else.

——————————

Today was technically horrendous. I didn’t even list the terrible details (maybe another time…or just for my diary…). But what’s important is remembering the little things that remind us to smile and appreciate what we have instead of dwelling on the negative things.
